I was invited from a friend to visit a cute little town in Yanai, Yamaguchi Prefecture called the 白壁の町並み/しらかべのまちなみ/Town of White Walls. I didn’t expect to see many goldfish decorated around the area. Apparently I have visited a town where they host the Yanai Goldfish Lantern Festival! I like how the goldfish were decorated everywhere. But first let me show you where I ate for lunch!
My friend took me to this restaurant called Yanairo where they only had three tables and so it was very small restaurant. Upon arrival there was only one table left in which we were lucky plus it was a weekday so that would make sense. Now lets get to the food!!
I ordered a lunch plate which was チキン南蛮/chicken nanban/chicken with tartar sauce because I haven’t had those in awhile and omg the presentation is so cute! This inspired me to buy little mini plates with veggies to recreate the plate! I liked the しょうゆたれ/soy-based sauce (shown in the picture in top left corner) that made the salad extra tasty. I need to buy me one of those for my future salads! While enjoying the lunch plate the restaurant is filled with goldfish lanterns.
After eating lunch we went on a little stroll and I found a sign that says to be careful with the little crabs crossing the roads. That was very cute, but sadly I didn’t see the little friends walking around. I wonder if they walk around in the evening because it was too hot.
There was a small store that sold goldfish stationary goods and so if you would like pencils or notebooks of the goldfish lanterns, they have it! They were even selling goldfish lanterns if you would like to take them home! I believe the small goldfish was about 3000yen while the large one (displayed in pictures shown) were about 6000yen.
Here’s the origin of goldfish lanterns I took picture right down below. I looked up when is the goldfish lantern festival and it turns out it will be tomorrow, August 13th! Sadly, I won’t be able to make it, however whoever is going I hope they have a great time!
It was a beautiful sunny day and hydrangea were in season and so I wanted to share these beautiful plants.
