Off to Mie Prefecture to visit a section of おはらい町/Oharaimachi called おかげ横町/Okage Yokocho. A tourist spot where it looks like a street of Japan’s past. Although I will be solely introducing food in this post, I wanted to display it like a travel destination because they have stores, restaurants, and sightseeing spots.
Traveling five hours by shinkansen train, I have arrived to the famous Okage Yokocho and was in awe. It looked like I was going back in time and went down the street of ancient Japan. I love these design of the buildings, they are so cute!
Look at the building of Starbucks! I like how the building matched the setting of the street just like the other buildings so it doesn’t stand out.
Okay now on to the food! First stop my friend and I went to まるごと果汁店/Marugoto Kajyuuten. Where you can buy orange or grapefruit and drink from the fruit! The staff will use a blending machine to make the fruit juicy. We got the orange one for 400yen. It was refreshing!
Next shop was プリンの鉄人/Pudding No Tetsujin where we had pudding with soft-cream. It was sweet! I didn’t think about putting soft cream with pudding, what a great way to put two desserts together. Bought this for 390yen!
Next stop we headed to はちみつ屋 松治郎の舗/Hachimitsuya Matsujiro No Mise. We tried ハニポテ/Honey Pote which was Honey Potato. I know the name sounds very odd because I imagined it was going to be French fries with honey, but it turned out to be sweet potato fries with honey. To my surprise the taste blends well together! Bought this for 480yen.
While eating the Honey Pote, the shop was selling variations of honey. I didn’t think there was so many of them. The staff let us taste test different kinds of honey so I bought myself one to take home! I bought Honey Lemonade which was 1,080yen.
Took a stroll outside the street and saw the view of the river and mountains.
Our last stop was 横丁君家/Yokocho Kimiya where we ordered Matsusaka beef and fried oyster. The beef was so soft and soooo delicious. I should’ve bought more. The fried oyster was delicious as well! Bought each roughly around 500yen.
Sadly, while looking for their website, I found out that it is permanently closed, but no worries there are other Matsusaka Beef available around the area.
And that concludes our adventure around Okage Yokocho! Out of all of the food we have tried I enjoyed the Matsuska beef because it tasted like high quality meat! If you ever plan to come to Okage Yokocho try coming with empty stomach so you can taste foods from different kind of shops! Sadly we did not have enough time to stay in the area, but we definitely enjoyed our time here.
Here is a short video from byte app of Okage Yokocho!
All in all, this trip was Kawaii (Cute) and Oshare (Stylish)♡
